Feeding, grooming, medical and dental care, plus all of the accessories, such as a soft bed, required to make a good dog happy; cost as much as caring for a human not that long ago.  But the need for companionship is great in a densely populated city where even a blade of grass is precious.  This contented dog is one of thousands living the good life in San Francisco.  A City Birds photo.
