Fort Winfield Scott is located on the western side of the Presidio of San Francisco.  Throughout its history as an active U.S. Army installation, the Fort, at times, served under its own command; and, at times, it served under the command of the Presidio.  Its primary function was command of the coastal artillery batteries protecting the San Francisco area.  Photo Gallery 32 shows buildings from each period of the Fort's service.  The pictures were taken during two visits.  The first visit was during a sunny day.  The second visit was during a more typical gray, foggy day.  Included are examples of coastal battery ruins.  Presidio Locator Map.  Digital Photo Gallery Thirty-two was first published April 19, 2006 by City Birds.
