This is the upper portion of the side altar located at the southern wall (left side of the sanctuary) of Missión San Francisco.

The statue to the left, perhaps, expresses the Mission Spirit -- spreading the "Word" with the persuasion of the Cross.  A sword is in his right hand in the event the Cross fails.  Notice his left foot resting on the globe of Earth; the message is probably an expression of the universality of the Church and the Spanish Empire being expanded at the time.
