Mission Dolores, San Francisco

A view of the towers and ornamentation over the doors of the Basilica of San Francisco.

The Basilica was completed in 1918 and replaces a church which was destroyed during the 1906 quake.  The Mission Church, with its thick walls, survived the quake.  This current edifice was designated a basilica by Pope Pius XII in 1952, making it an honorary church of the Pope.
