Winter in San Francisco is interesting.  February is usually our stormy winter month.  February 26, 2004 saw winds up to 60 mph, creating beautiful waves at the Pacific Coast side of the City.  During winter the birds, large and small, play around, enjoying the winds while in flight.  Gallery Six includes both the stormy sea and some of the birds -- highlighting the Raven and the House Finch; also, we include candid shots taken during February.

Gallery Seven, in addition to candid snaps taken around San Francisco, features the Old Wright Army Hospital and old artillery on the grounds of the Hospital located at the Presidio of San Francisco.  During Winter, when things are less crowded, it is easier to study in greater detail some of the many gems to be found in the City.  Finally we end our Winter studies with some views of our February 2004 sky.

San Francisco's only significant storm of winter 2004 ended on February 26th as seen in Gallery Six.  The sky over the City cleared and in a few days we would find ourselves blanketed in oppressive heat, day and night, in what would become the warmest 12 consecutive days (during the November-March period) in 65 years here in San Francisco.  By day twelve both bird and beast were growing weary of the heat.  Blessedly, the fog returned the morning of March 19th, cooling things off a bit.

The first day of Spring 2004 in San Francisco was as fine a day as one could hope for anywhere in the world.  Many city birds enjoyed the day at Fort Mason.  All of the pictures in Digital Photo Gallery Nine (with the exception of the first picture) were taken at Fort Mason on that wondrous day.  Seen here are some of the buildings, open spaces, wooded places, birds and flowers which make Fort Mason one of the most valued places in San Francisco.

On D-day, June 6th, 1944, the largest armada in history sailed across the English Channel to liberate Nazi occupied Europe.  Of the thousands of ships which participated in the invasion of the Normandy Coast, only one operational ship survives -- the Liberty Ship SS Jeremiah O'Brien.  She is berthed at Pier 45, San Francisco.  She runs, she sails, and she is tenderly cared for by volunteers who love to show her off to visitors from around the world.  The ship provides an educational experience in the most pleasurable and exciting way.
